India Is Using Assassins To Eliminate Kashmiri Activists: Ahmed Quraishi
By News Desk
GENEVA/ISLAMABAD—World’s top diplomats received an interesting recommendation today that could help resolve one of the oldest disputes in the world. Rights activists from Kashmir addressed a general debate of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday and suggested that the UN should look into appointing a special envoy of UN on Kashmir.
This recommendation was floated on the UNHRC floor by Altaf Hussain Wani, leader of the Kashmir Delegation to the 29th session of the Council.
Wani told the Council that India was using terrorism to confront Kashmiri freedom activists after India’s defense minister said New Delhi will “counter terror with terror”.
Ahmed Quraishi, Executive Director of international Kashmir lobbying group YFK, said in a statement that India was using assassins to eliminate Kashmiri activists. Four known activists in Sopore in the Indian-occupied region have been mysteriously killed in the last 10 days. Kashmir is back on the top of Pakistan-India agenda, and the international agenda.
The Kashmir Delegation to the 29th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Geneva consists of veteran Kashmir activist Altaf Hussain Wani, Executive Director Youth Forum For Kashmir (YFK) Ahmed Quraishi, senior Kashmir women activist Mrs. Shamim Shawl, Kashmiri rights activist Shagufta Ashraf, Ishtiyaq Hameed, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, and Sardar Amjad Yousaf.
YFK is Pakistan’s first pro-Kashmir, registered and nonpartisan International lobbying group led by young Kashmiris and Pakistanis working to ensure justice to Kashmiris living under Indian-military occupation.
