Modi’s India And The Caribbean – Sheikh Imran N. Hosein

Modi’s India And The Caribbean

By Sheikh Imran N. Hosein

As Trinidad and Tobago welcomes India’s Prime Minister, while seeking to better understand, and to respond, to what now clearly appears to be the bold embrace of a new actor at work in Caribbean affairs, it is important that the Caribbean be reminded that Modi’s India is a firm friend and ally of Israel which has not only committed genocide in Gaza, but seems adamant to finish the job of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians – both Christians and Muslims.

It was just last September that former Foreign Minister Amery Brown made the Caribbean proud in his exceptionally courageous address to the UN General Assembly in which he denounced Israeli oppression and genocide of the Palestinian Christians and Muslims. He even went on to denounce the double standards of the West which would have responded differently if the killing fields involved their own people. He championed the cause of the ‘wretched of the earth’ in a manner which brought back memories of Franz Fanon and Malcolm X. He even brought back fond memories of Dr. Eric Williams’ “Massa day done”!

The reality that now confronts us is that Mahatma Gandhi’s model of fraternity has been replaced in India with Modi’s supremacist model that mirrors Israel’s model of a birthright of superiority.

Indeed, Modi’s Hindu India and Netanyahu’s Jewish Israel both appear to be traveling, with Trump as their Guru, in the direction of a strategic alliance in a new world order they want to create.

It is in this context that we commend Newsday’s courageous editorial comment (July 3rd) that “in May, Mr Trump claimed to have mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan when violence flared, yet again, over Kashmir. That impasse was eerily anticipatory of June’s blistering Israel-Iran conflict in which Mr Trump’s role was again evident. More chaotic is the theatre of war, more dangerous some of the players.

As time passes, and the dust settles, as it did after 9/11, it is possible for observers to connect dots and to recognize the reality of many acts of terrorism, such as that which recently occurred in Kashmir, which are scripted to advance political and military agendas. Falsehood of public pronouncements soon become apparent as truth rises from the fog of fake news.
