Indian annexation of Kashmir and options for Pakistan
By Ali Hassnain
Churchill after early success in war said “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”
India has played their cards, now they should wait for the response of Kashmiris supported by Pakistanis. This is a whole new level of brinkmanship, likes of which the world has not seen.
Most popular leader of Kashmir Syed Ali Geelani in his last tweet said:
This tweet must be taken as an SOS (Save Our Souls) message to all Muslims living on this planet. If we all die and you kept quite you will be answerable to Allah the Magnificent. Indians are about to launch the biggest genocide in the history of Mankind. May Allah protect us.

India bypassed all the international norms and regulations and annexed Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Let’s discuss in brief what India did. Internet has been shut down in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir along with cellular phone and landlines.
IOJ & K is under curfew and Indian occupation forces are using military grade wireless or satellite phone to communicate.
Article 370 was the basis of Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to the Indian union at a time when erstwhile princely states had the choice to join either India or Pakistan after their independence from the British rule in 1947. The article, which came into effect in 1949, exempts Jammu and Kashmir State from the Indian constitution.
It allows the Indian-administered region jurisdiction to make its own laws in all matters except finance, defence, foreign affairs and communications. It was annexed with documents of accession by Maharaja of India which itself is illegal. It established a separate constitution and a separate flag and denied property rights in the region to the outsiders.
Article 35A was introduced through a presidential order in 1954 to continue the old provisions of the territory regulations under Article 370 of the Indian constitution as discussed in the accusation documents.
The article permits the local legislature in Indian-administered Kashmir to define permanent residents of the region. It forbids outsiders from permanently settling, buying land, holding local government jobs or winning education scholarships in the region. So that was scrapped today with a Presidential decree although it was the fundamentals of Indian constitution.
In effect all agreements with India now stand void including the Indus Basin and Simla agreement. India has refused to respect international obligations and it is time to treat India as a rogue state.
Let’s talk of history a bit. Field Marshal Ayub Khan, General Zia and General Pervaiz Musharraf stand vindicated today. Ayub Khan knew well that international community would not act until we do something successful militarily. So did Zia (many occasions, mostly classified except Afghan Jihad) and Pervaiz Musharraf in Kargil.
Let’s talk of history a bit more. In 1974 India conducted its first nuclear test, international community did nothing. In 1998 India tested more nuclear weapons, except ceremonial condemnations world did nothing. It was only after Pakistanis nuclear tests that US and other countries sanctioned both India and Pakistan. This very February except Tayyab Erdogan no one even condemned the Indian attempted incursion at Balakot until Pakistan responded with force. Then all the members of UNSC were in action.
A wise German (Bismarck) once said in German parliament “our frontiers have been ill-designed for a healthy body politic. Not through speeches and majority decisions will the great questions of the day be decided—that was the great mistake of 1848 and 1849—but by iron and blood (Eisen und Blut).”
Next thing I want to discuss is war economy. It’s a whole different thing. Unfortunately the performance of our government in economic sector has been nothing short of extremely disappointing. War economy is a different thing. It is a “system of producing, mobilising and allocating resources to sustain the violence.”
One can discuss it but I think we are ready for a war economy, since 1971 at least. Plus when national integrity is at stake it hardly matters if your premiers reads his speech from a “Parchi” or headphones, performance matters. The Indian aggression is failure of Zardari and Nawaz as well so consider me apolitical.
We survived Indian invasion in 1948 and all out invasion in 1965 despite being a new state which was created from scratch in 1947.
Now the ball is in Pakistan’s court. Let’s be clear: our heart beats with Kashmiris and we would not abandon them no matter what. The response by Pak Government suggests something is in the offering, something big that would protect the people of Kashmir from genocide of RSS and might even lead to freedom of Kashmir.
The response by Army Chief and Imran Khan that they would go to “any extent” is more than enough for the ones who understand. For ones who don’t Imran Khan detailed the fascist history of RSS, its political wing BJP and how India has refused dialogues despite his best effort. He mentioned the ongoing beef lynchings of Muslims and Christians in India (and lynchings on other pretexts) and how inherent racism in India effects minorities. Imran Khan in parliament pointed out today how the BJP plans would lead to unrest in Kashmir which would be blamed on Pakistan leading to a limited and then a conventional war. Imran Khan said back in February 2019 too that Tipu Sultan is our hero not the last Mughal Emperor (ceremonial) Bahadur Shah Zafar who surrendered and lived in exile in Burma. We would use the Tipu Sultan option, not surrender. Tipu Sultan decided to fight till the last drop of his blood with Colonial Forces of Britain. He clarified it is not nuclear blackmail but merely facts.
To put it short, it is impossible ISI did not inform the govt. what Indian govt. is up to. Trump’s offer of mediation now looks like either a trick or he was misguided by his people. Shah Mehmood Qureshi should immediately be fired for inefficiency if nothing else and replaced with someone super competent and one without question marks on his actions.
All said and done as they say in Greek, the cast has been set. India has annexed Kashmir.
To start Pakistan should block Pakistani airspace for any airplanes to and from India so no civilians get caught in cross fire. Trade should be blocked with India. Ban Indian movies in cinemas and all Indian content on media, immediately.
What can Pakistan do? Well, at this point reasoning with the Mad BJP is not an option. For one thing they are not ready. Something like operation Gibraltar by Azad Kashmir regiment capturing strategic location on Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir is an option. Azad Kashmir regiment should be given the required equipment. We all know about the Akhnoor dagger; in an aggressive attack we can cut Kashmir from India and that would be it. There is already heavy shelling on LoC. We can help Azad Kashmir regiment to help Kashmiri resistance and stop the upcoming genocide of Muslims from Haji Pir Darra where we have advantage of high ground and there are countless military options.
We should work on them, improve, prepare and keep ready our nuclear weapons and missiles throughout, as we have in the past.
Having said that we have to declare a state of emergency and treat local Indian assets with military court and we have to assert control of state without compromise. India would try their Afghan assets and it is quite possible that Afghan peace process is in essence over. We have to deal with people who twist words to portray as sincere Pakistanis or aggrieved parties and are paid by India.
Defeated motion of no confidence of Chairman Senate was a diversion from India and Hasil Bazenjo like his father is a pro-Indian traitor. It is up to ISI to catch his connections as his actions are clear. Opposition should apologise for this gross mistake and unite. Position on Kashmir of all three main political parties in Pakistan is the same. NGOs that oppose public policy and act for hostile forces should be banned at once.
I am pro peace, so is Pakistan as a whole but a lot is about to happen. We must support armed forces, government and be united.
“…Allah’s Apostle in one of his military expeditions against the enemy, waited till the sun declined and then he got up amongst the people saying, “O people! Do not wish to meet the enemy, and ask Allah for safety, but when you face the enemy, be patient, and remember that Paradise is under the shades of swords.” Then he said, “O Allah, the Revealer of the Holy Book, and the Mover of the clouds and the Defeater of the clans, defeat them, and grant us victory over them.”
