GENEVA, Switzerland—The head of the Kashmir delegation to UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Mr. Altaf Hussain Wani, held a meeting with Ambassador Mohammad Kawu Ibrahim, Chairperson of International Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of OIC.
The meeting was held at the Palais des Nations, the UN office in Geneva.
Members of the Kashmiri delegation, senior APHC leaders Ishtiyaq Hameed and Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Sardar Yousaf Amjad Khan, Executive Director of Kashmir Institute of International Affairs (KIIR) and Mr. Ahmed Quraishi, Executive Director, Youth Forum for Kashmir (YFK), participated in the meeting.
Wani congratulated Amb. Ibrahim on assuming chairmanship of the Commission, which will act as OIC’s agency responsible for monitoring human rights issues worldwide. He explained to IPHRC chairperson the mission of the Kashmir delegation at UN-Geneva.
Wani also explained KIIR’s role in documenting and reporting rights violations by Indian occupation army in Kashmir, and how the complaints received from Kashmiris inside and out the occupied territory are verified and then submitted to UN Human Rights Council in Geneva every year.
Amb. Ibrahim appreciated the role of the Kashmiri delegation and explained IPHRC’s mandate on Palestine and the Israel-occupied territories.
He said the IPHRC has devised a mechanism to work on Palestine and was in the process to develop a similar mechanism for Kashmir.
Amb. Ibrahim discussed with the head of the Kashmir delegation possible methods for IPHRC to take up complaints of human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
