Enlightened Muslim thinkers must protect Pakistan from sectarian extremists
Mufti Taqi Usmani has demanded ban on Muharram processions. He should know Pakistan is not Saudi Arabia. The constitution of Pakistan guarantees religious freedom to all sects.
Some other sectarian has supported his stance by writing that the Milad procession should also be banned. Such statements hurt Sunni and Shia community. The argument of banning these processions is given that people face traffic problem.
I pity on the mindset of these people who do not have patience for two days in the whole year. Daily, we see political processions on roads. Two years ago, Maulana Rizvi had blocked Islamabad for four months and no Mufti or Mullah spoke against that undemocratic way of protest. Even Mufti Taqi Usmani had no problem with that protest that besieged Islamabad for such a longer period. He and his cronies and cohorts have problem with the Milad Day Observance in the love of holy prophet of Islam and 10th of Muharram as the day of agony on the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
Actually, these Sectarian Mullahs are debating on sectarian issues and creating fuss in society. They are professional and sectarian. They are least bothered in the implementation of Islamic system based on human rights and human freedom and social justice. The government must deal with them with iron hand.
The enlightened Muslim thinkers must face the challenge and protect Pakistan from the extremists. Otherwise, the country will become a battle field among Muslim sects. We must avoid criticizing other sects. Live and let live should be our motto. Protest is always on the roads, not in rooms. You hold conferences in halls and rooms, not the processions. Even in America and the Western countries, protests and processions are on roads.
The people who want ban on the Milad or Muharram processions, they have some problems with these holy personalities. The procession of Imam Hussain is a protest again monarchy and injustice.
Hussain stood for Islamic freedom and justice. The monarchs do not want that the Day of Hussain should be observed. Their agents have openly chanted slogans Yazid Zindabad (long live Yazid). Can any Muslim tolerate such slogans?
I condemn all sectarian mindset and the people who are extremists in religious matters. Pakistan was created by two enlightened Muslims: Dr. Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam. They were opposed by religious hard liners and the agents of Indian National Congress. To day, their descendants and followers are fanning the flames of sectarianism. We must respect the faith of all whether Muslims or non- Muslims and spread the fragrance of harmony and moderation. The sectarian Mullahs must be condemned.
