The Issue Of Feudalism And Islamic Socialism
In Islamic Socialism, land belongs to state. Islam does not share the ideological, social, moral and political system with Communism and Scientific Socialism of Karl Marx. It is highly tragic that in all Muslim countries, there is feudalism which is against Islamic economic system.
Dear Dr Edward Herbert
I hope you are hale and hearty. I admit and admire your eminence as British political thinker. You have sought my opinion about Feudalism in its historical perspective and especially in the light of Islamic economic thought. Very briefly, I would like to throw light on this subject.
Greek philosopher, Plato gave the idea of Communism and opined that land does not belong to land lords. The ownership of land belongs to State. This theoretical notion was scientifically presented by Karl Marx in his book titled “The Capital” and in “The Communist Manifesto.”
The founder of Zoroastrianism, Zoroaster propounded the theory of Socialism and announced that land belongs to state. Then, his predecessor Mazdak also rejected feudalism and supported socialism.
About the philosophy and theology of these two Iranians who claimed to be prophets, one can know much in the book of Edward G. Brown titled “A Literary History of Persia”. Besides, the book of Gherardo Gnoli titled “Mazdskism”, Shahrastani in his book titled “Al- Milal-wal-Nahl” and Dr Allama Iqbal in his book titled “The Development of Metaphysics in Persia” mentioned about Socialism of Mazdak.
Tolstoy also preached Socialism and rejected feudalism. So far as Islam is concerned, the Holy Quran categorically rejects feudalism. It says: “The land belongs to God”, which means it belongs to Islamic state. Great poet and Philosopher Dr Allama Iqbal is his poetry and prose has rejected feudalism. He has used the term “Islamic Socialism”. The founder of Pakistan, Quaid-I-Azam also used the term “Islamic Socialism”.
What is the difference between the Socialism propounded by Plato, Mazdak and Karl Marx and Islamic Socialism? It is important to understand the difference between them. In Communism, the land, the women and all natural resources belong to state with the acceptance and imposition of atheism and one party rule, while Islam believes in Monotheism, family system, and political freedom.
In Islamic Socialism, land belongs to state. Islam does not share the ideological, social, moral and political system with Communism and Scientific Socialism of Karl Marx. It is highly tragic that in all Muslim countries, there is feudalism which is against Islamic economic system.
Pakistan is also under the stone wall of feudalism which needs to be weeded out. The civil and military high-ups are the beneficiaries of feudalism and are allotted plots and land after their retirement. These additional perks and privileges are un-Islamic. Our assemblies and senate consists of high-ups. The political parties are the maids of the elite class.
Once, the Chinese leader Mao had said: “The revolution cannot be brought by elite class”. Hazrat Ali also condemned elites and asked his governors to have close contact with the poor people. The Muslims need eradication of monarchies and autocratic regimes. Pakistan needs an iconoclastic revolution which is not possible by the present rulers and politicians. They swing around power pillars and lack true, honest, visionary, educated pack of political activists.
