“There Are A Thousand Ways To Reach God, I Chose Love”
Healing Through Love: Surah Rahman And The Legacy Of Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA)

Rumi once said, “There are many ways to reach God, I chose love.” I am reminded of this as I reflect on Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA) and the profound impact he has had on my life.
I was introduced to Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA) in 2019 when I learned about the method of healing through listening to the recitation of Surah Rahman. This method is usually referred to as The Ultimate Remedy. He was born Syed Safdar Ali Bukhari, and later came to be famously known as Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA) and Kakiyan Wali Sarkar (RA). He passed away in 2005, yet his message about the Quran remains alive and will continue to live on. As you read on, you will understand why I believe his message will not die.
I say I was “introduced” to him, though I never met him in person, for it feels as though I truly have. One reason for this may be that his spiritual successor, Syed Shakir Uzair Sahib (whom everyone calls Syed Baba), has kept Qalandar Baba’s teachings and core message alive to this day. He tirelessly spreads the message of healing through listening to Surah Rahman, dedicating his life to this mission with unmatched devotion. No adversity or ill health stands in the way of his ultimate dedication to humanity, and I am a witness to it.
Syed Baba says that the Quran itself is the main source of all kinds of healing, and healing comes only from Allah. Allah Almighty has already declared this in the Quran:
“And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.” (Surah Al-Isra, verse 82)
“O mankind, there has come to you an instruction from your Lord and a healing for what is in the chests—a guidance and a mercy for the believers.” (Surah Yunus, verse 57)
Yet, for most of us, this truth remained only an intellectual idea. Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA) revealed its practical dimension. The Quran had been there for ages; people had been reciting it and even listening to its recitation, but Allah gave weight to what His friend said. To this day, his prescribed method remains an effective way to heal not only physical ailments and mental issues but also to awaken our dead hearts.
Whoever listens to Surah Rahman in the way Qalandar Baba (RA) prescribed experiences healing. Through this message of mercy, millions of Muslims and non-Muslims around the world are being healed from physical and mental illnesses. For the Holy Quran was not revealed as mercy only for Muslims, but as mercy for all humanity. Testimonials about The Ultimate Remedy are all over the internet and social media platforms.
Some may ask: “Why him and not someone else? Why not another spiritual guru, Islamic scholar, or Murshid (spiritual guide)?” My answer lies in the title of this article. I am profoundly happy and grateful to Allah that I found one way of reaching Him, led by a man who is the epitome of love; love for all mankind, regardless of religion, race, social status, or even character. Both the pious and the sinners were embraced by him and engulfed in his love.
Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA) also extended his Faiz (spiritual grace and influence) to all: the grief-stricken, the troubled, the financially distressed, the sick, and even those afflicted by jinn or magic. His Faiz was for everyone; the elite and the common man benefitted equally. He used to say:

“Prayer is the name of your heartfelt emotions; it is not asked for; it flows from the heart.”
“Ar-Rahman (Allah) is He whose mercy is like a never-ending bountiful rain.”
When I first visited his shrine in 2019, it felt as though he welcomed me with immense love. The feelings I experienced there cannot be described in words. A worldly or secular person might not understand how a man who has physically left this Duniya (world) can shower us with his love. My answer to that lies in Dr Iqbal’s words:
گذر جا عقل سے آگے کہ یہ نور
چراغِ راہ ہے منزل نہیں ہےRenounce the path of reason; it is a light
That brightens thy way; it is not thy Final goal.
During that visit, I met his sons Mansha Sahib and Farhat Sahib, as well as Qalandar Baba’s dear friend, the late Yunus Ansari Sahib. They shared many stories about Qalandar Baba (RA), and before I knew it, three to four hours had passed. Since then, I have received immense love and spiritual guidance from Qalandar Baba’s spiritual successor, Syed Baba, and through Qalandar Baba’s grace, my evergreen heartache has subsided.
At the time I received the message of listening to Surah Rahman in 2019, I had been suffering from contact dermatitis and urticaria for two years. No doctor could understand how to cure it. I had been taking antihistamines continuously for two years. Initially, I listened to Surah Rahman for my physical illness, but later I realized its spiritual benefits. Gradually, the disease was cured. Yet the real transformation occurred in my heart; something I had not even intended when I began listening to the blessed Surah Rahman.
Despite belonging to a religious family, I had never truly felt love for Allah Almighty, nor was I able to understand His love for us. I am ashamed of my previous attitude towards God, but I realize it only now. My life had been spent in complaints against Him. Through the grace of Surah Rahman, the Quran, I awakened to the realization that Allah is beautiful, that He loves humanity deeply, and that He alone is worthy of our love. I give full credit for this soul-awakening to Qalandar Baba (RA) and his spiritual heir, Syed Baba.
Alhamdulillah, listening to Surah Rahman also had positive effects on my family. The atmosphere at home became more peaceful, and everyone felt calmer. My anger became more manageable. Such spiritual ailments cannot be cured merely by someone pointing them out. To recognize your reality and confront your own Self, you need a friend of Allah who reveals the flaws of your Nafs (ego). Before meeting Syed Baba, I did not realize that the inner self also requires reformation. Now I understand that the hardest battle is against one’s own Self, and this struggle must continue until the last breath.
Another weakness I had was that I was overly sensitive to criticism and would become upset easily. From Qalandar Baba Bukhari’s (RA) teachings, I learned that constructive criticism is essential for personal growth. If someone criticizes you not out of malice but to help you improve, that person is not your enemy but your benefactor.

The words of Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA), “Mankind is suffering; deliver the message of Surah Rahman to the suffering and misfortunate people”, have settled deeply in my heart. He also said: “Take away the sorrows of the sorrowful and spread smiles on their faces.”
This has now become my mission: to spread this message of mercy, to tell everyone the benefits of listening to Uroos-ul-Quran, the Surah Rahman. Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA) renounced worldly attachments and drew close to Allah. If we cling to materialistic things and worldly desires, we will surely distance ourselves from the friends of Allah; and such distance leads to ruin in this world and the Hereafter.
As Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal (RA) wrote:
نہ تخت و تاج میں، نے لشکر و سپاہ میں ہے
جو بات مردِ قلندر کی بارگاہ میں ہےA monarch’s pomp and mighty arms
Can never give such glee,
As can be felt in presence of
A qalandar bold and free.
My spiritual relationship and love for Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA) and his spiritual successor, Syed Baba, are the greatest blessings of my life. The result of their influence is that I now tell everyone I meet to spread this message of mercy and love by listening to Surah Ar-Rahman. Regarding this ultimate remedy, Qalandar Baba Bukhari (RA) also said:
“Outward illnesses and sufferings are very little things. The real point (of listening to the recitation of Surah Rahman) is to revive dead hearts.”
If you cannot help someone in their distress, you can at least share with them the message of listening to Surah Rahman. The greatest problem of our era is restlessness, despair, and depression. The fact of the matter is that true peace cannot be found anywhere except through the Holy Book of Allah, the Quran. The Quran is Healing, the Quran is Mercy, the Quran is the solution to all problems. Therefore, listen to Surah Rahman yourself and convey this message of mercy to others.
May Allah grant us success in this blessed endeavour. Ameen.
