GENEVA, Switzerland—Kashmiri and Pakistani delegates attending the 27th Session of UN Human Rights Council, organized a Seminar, Press Conference and Demonstration. Kashmir faired prominently in Europe this week when hundreds of Kashmiris from across the continent descended on United Nations Headquarters in Geneva to hold a major protest demonstration. People from all walks of life participated in protest against India’s explicit lack of interest and failure to help Kashmiris stranded in the worst flooding in a century. India’s stubborn attitude and noncooperation with UN on cases of ‘disappeared’ Kashmiris, and New Delhi’s continued military occupation in Jammu and Kashmir in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
The protest took place in front of the “Palais De Nations”. International human rights activists joined Kashmiri speakers in addressing the demonstration. The protest was addressed by Chaudhry Pervez Ashraf-Minister AJK, Altaf Hussain Wani-APHC, Sardar Amjad Yousaf Khan-KIIR, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi-APHC, Mrs. Shamim Shawl-APHC, Ahmed Quraishi-Youth Forum For Kashmir, Ambassador Ronald Barnes, and other activists.
Ahmed Quraishi, Executive Director Youth Forum For Kashmir while addressing the crowd urged United Nations to take notice of intentional mismanagement and discrimination done by India while dealing with the flood victims of Indian-Occupied Kashmir.
While addressing the crowd, the speakers demanded urgent UN humanitarian intervention in IOK, and the opening of ceasefire line enabling AJK people and government to support the rescue and rehabilitation operations on the other side of the divide.
The chants of ‘Go India Go’ filled the air in front of the UN building in the heart of Geneva. The speakers emphasized that they will continue the struggle until UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir are implemented, and Kashmiris decide their future fate through an independent and impartial plebiscite.
Altaf Hussain Wani, Veteran Kashmiri Leader while addressing the press conference in Geneva Press Club, condemned the incidents of physical assault & hate crimes against the Kashmiri students in India.
