Quran Has Been Made Easy To Understand

By Syed Iftikhar Haider

ALLAH ALEEM UL HAKEEM SAYS:

“QUR’AN HAS BEEN MADE EASY TO UNDERSTAND.”

Since centuries a wrong notion has been infiltrated into the minds of Muslims by some special interest groups that “Qur’an is not understandable to a common man” and therefore such easy short cuts have been invented to bypass Qur’an that it does not remain, an essential part of our learning process. Although the same Qur’an was revealed through the Holy Messenger s.a.a.s for Moumin, Kafir, Munafiq, educated, uneducated, young, old, good, bad, Christian, Jew, urban or rural people. Qur’an was sent as Huden Lil Naas and Zikrun Lil Aalemeen (Guidance for whole Mankind and Advice for all states of Human existence.)

In many major madrassahs extending religious education in a seven 7 years course, besides Dars-e-Nizami and few other subjects, only Surah Al–Baqarah of Qur’an is taught. Rest of the Qur’an is left to their own desire to study.

Instead of touching on any Historical Sectarian debate of who said what and who did what? I have preferred to go directly to The supreme AUTHOR of this Holy Book Qur’an and seek His guidance on this subject from His own book.

I have simply made my comments here and there, regarding the present state of affairs.

I – UNDERSTANDING of QUR’AN UL HAKEEM

In 54th surah “Al Qamar” of Qur’an-ul- Hakeem: ayaat number 17,22,32 & 40 the All-Knowing and All-Wise ALLAH s.w.t repeats the following statement four (4) times:

“We have made this Qur’an easy to understand; Is there anyone who will contemplate”.

If Allah Aleem ul Hakeem, who created human mind and its capabilities to understand, gives a statement like this and that too so repeatedly, four times in one small surah, then how could it be possible for any Muslim believer to say that “Quran is difficult to understand”? Without even making an effort to study it like their primary school books.

In 12th Surah Yusuf: ayaat # 1 and 2: Allah Aleem ul Hakeem says:

“Alif. Laam. Ra. These are the ayaat of a Book that is clear to understand (12:1.)Verily we have revealed this Qur’an in Arabic Language (your mother tongue) so that you could understand it.” (12:2)

In 41st Surah Ha Meem Al-Sajda, ayat # 44 Allah says:

“And if We had revealed Qur’an in a language other than Arabic (Ajami: meaning non Arabic) then these people would have said that why these ayaat have not been clearly explained to them. How come the language of Qur’an is Ajami while their own language is Arabic. Tell them that for those who have Faith –  Qur’an is Guidance and Cure for their spiritual ailments.

In 14th Surah Abraham a.s., ayat 4, Allah s.w.t. says:-

“We have never sent a Messenger except with a message in the language of his people so that they could clearly understand it.”

In a situation like this all what the non-Arab Muslims need to do is: learn Arabic in order to get an everlasting gain in the eternal life; just like they learned English, French, Spanish, Urdu, Hindi or any other language, for earning their livelihood.

One can also consult different translations of Qur’an and dictionary to see which meaning is more consistent with the text of the Ayat, the Rakuh and the whole Qur’an because Qur’an never contradicts itself.

Good teachers of language, normally give exercises to FILL IN THE BLANKS or to MAKE SENTENSES FROM WORDS. The purpose is to know if the student has understood the meaning and usage of the words and could use them in sentences with their appropriate meaning..

Similarly from the index of Qur’anic words i.e. (” Al-Moejem ul-Mufahris” by Fwaad Abdul Baaqi.) we can find out how Allah s.w.t. has used these words in sentences and which meaning carries itself consistently in almost all ayaat .

QUR’AN, BEING KALAM ALLAH IS IN ITSELF A MASTERPIECE OF LITERATURE AND USES WORDS AND SENTENCES THAT ARE MOST APPROPRIATE TO CONVEY THE DESIRED MEANINGS.  NO ONE CAN REPLACE THESE WORDS WITHOUT LOSING THE MEANING OF THE TEXT.

In Qur’an ul Majeed the Meanings as well as the beauty of the narration is at its utmost perfection. Therefore, in order to understand Qur’an, try to keep an eye on each and every Arabic word of the ayat. Just like a scientist or an engineer who can never afford to ignore any fact or a data.

In 47th surah Mohammed s.a.a.s, ayat 24, Allah s.w.t says:

“Why don’t they contemplate on Qur’an? Have the locks been placed on their hearts?” (47:24)

In surah 6. Al – Enaam, ayat 65 Allah s.w.t. says :-

“See how We explain these revealed ayaat so that you may understand their wisdom. (Yufqahoon)”

The word used is “Yufqahoon” which has the same root as for Faqih or fiqah”. Therefore every MOUMIN is supposed to do “ufqahoon on ayaat of Qur’an” and become a faqih himself. Ayaat number 6: 99/ 7: 179/ 8:65 / 63:3 also repeat the above message.

In surah 2  Al Baqara ayaat 219 and 266 Allah s.w.t. says : –

“This is how Allah s.w.t. explains His ayaat so that you may reflect.” ( 2: 219, 266)

II – WHY QUR’AN APPEARS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND

In 6th Surah Al – Enaam, Ayaat :126,127, Allah Rehman ur Raheem says:

“According to the laws based on Allah’s Will, (when any one chooses to get guidance) Allah guides him by opening his heart for the acceptance of Islam. (But for the one who chooses to go astray), then by the same law, his heart is narrowed for the acceptance of Islam, as if he has to climb a hill, high up to the sky. This is how Allah covers them with the filth of immorality (according to His law) when they do not believe in His guidance. (126). This is the “straight path” of your Lord. We have explained our ayaat in full detail for those who take heed”(127)

III – WHEN TO STUDY QUR’AN

1- Study it in the morning when your mind is fresh.

2- Study it at night when you have more free time.

Surah 17 ayat : 78 and 79 says:-“As for the studying of Qur’an in the morning. Verily studying of Quran in the morning reveals its meaning very clearly.” (17:78) “And during a portion of night keep awake with it by studying it. (17:79). (I do not understand why in some translations the Qur’an-al-fajar has been translated as Salaat ul fajar.)

The Arabic word used in ayet 17:79 is “FA-TAHAJJED BAHEE”. Since AllAH s.w.t is talking about Qur’an, therefore the reference of the word “BAHEE” (with this) can be nothing other than Qur’an itself. Please note that the word TAHAJJED is used only once in Qur’an, in this ayat. That means keeping awake with Qur’an at night to study it, just like any one doing his studies at night for school or college subjects or for their professional work.

Tahajjed can never mean repeating recitation of a couple of small surahs to Allah s.w.t. 7 or 11 or 17 times in namaaz form – – Full detail about how to do “Tahajjed with Qur’an at night” is given in the ayaat number 1-7 and 20 of the 73rd Surah MUZZAMMIL.

Ayaat 1 to 7

1-O ! You Muzzammil!

2- Get up at night but a little less.

3-Half of night or little less than that–

4-Or little more — and study Qur’an ayet by ayet.

5-(After you achieve the knowledge and Wisdom of this Qur’an and reap the benefits of following its guidance) You will soon receive command to carry out very difficult works.

6-No doubt keeping awake at night on a subject, makes your thought base solid and your speech very sound.

7-(Yes, we know) You remain busy in a long schedule of works (Sabbeh) during the day.

Surah 73, ayat 20

20- Your Allah knows that you and some of your companions keep awake with Qur’an sometime two third of the night, sometime half of the night or sometimes one third of it — Allah knows the measure of night and day. Knowing that you may not be able to continue this routine He has returned to you with kindness. Therefore, now study out of Qur’an, whatever you can easily study– – Allah knows that some of you can be sick, some might have to go on a business trip and sometimes you might have to even go on a battle. Therefore, study out of Qur’an as much as you can easily do and establish Salaat and spend Zakaat.

(These above ayaat give us the detail of “doing Tahajjed with Qur’an as advised in ayet 17:79 — See if you are this kind of “Tahajjed Guzar” or not?)

IV- HOW TO STUDY QUR’AN SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT.

73rd Surah Muzzammil,  ayat 4:

“Study Qur’an with a slow pace in small understandable portions.”

73rd Surah Muzzammil, ayat 20:

“Study Qur’an as much as you could study with ease.”

34th Surah Saba, ayat 4:

“Tell them (O! My Messenger) that I advise you of only one thing that you should get together in twos or even alone and contemplate on my ayaat. Then only will you realize that, this companion of yours (The Holy Prophet s.a.a.s.) has not lost His mind but, He is none else than a Warner before the terrific doom.”

V – HOW TO LISTEN TO QUR’AN

7th Surah  Al – Eraaf, ayat 204:

“Whenever Qur’an is recited, listen with full attention (no other sound should draw your attention) and stay completely quiet and focused ( you should not even think of speaking anything) so that you can receive the REHMAT.”

25th Surah  Al- Furqaan, ayat 73:

“When “Ibad ur Rehman” (Obedient servants of Allah) are being explained the Ayaat of their Rubb, they do not attend them like deaf and blind .”

VI – THE PRESENT STATE Of AFFAIRS

It is very tragic that for the Muslims today, the recital of a word or a small surah of Qur’an, without knowing its meanings, is considered equal to the study of whole Qur’an. Sawab, sawab, sawab, a word which has lost its true meaning and is used to make us believe that we are reaping the harvest without sowing any seeds.

Keep in mind that most of the translations are normally based on the standard New or Old Dictionary meanings. Only where the sectarian beliefs differ, the meanings of ayaat also differ. So much so that over 1400 years the Muslim kingdoms from very early period had to associate such meanings with Qur’an through Shan-e-nazool, tafaseer, Aqwaal, week Ahadees, historical statements and stories from the books of other religions, that provided “The Governing Establishments” with sufficiently loose rope to do whatever they wished and that too with the Label of Religion! GREAT!

That is why only 25 years after the death of REHMAT UN LIL ALIMEEN, THE LAST MESSENGER OF ALLAH s.a.a.s. The Moumins started fighting battles with each other and the most cruel dynasties of Umayyads, Abbasids , Fatimids, Pathans , Ottomans, Safavees , Mughals etc. took over and ruled just as the past Non-Muslim Dynasties of Nimrud’s, Pharaohs and Romans did.

The true spirit of Qur’an was shifted to the background and had lost its due  status in order to, let their own brand of religion prevail, to suite their un-Islamic set of desires and form of governance.

THE KIND OF ZULM THAT TOOK PLACE IN KARBALA WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE IN ISLAM WITHOUT PUTTING QUR’AN IN THE BACKGROUND —- UNFORTUNATELY ALL PREVIOUS RELIGIONS OF ALLAH MET THE SAME FATE AFTER THE DEATHS OF THEIR PROPHETS. THE ONLY EXCEPTION WAS THOSE FEW STEADFAST MOUMINS WHO WOULD RATHER DIE BUTT WILL NOT GIVE UP THE DEEN OF ALLAH s.w.t.

Just to elaborate my point, I would like to narrate only one example of the state we are in now and how much Qur’an has been neglected.

I would request you all to look into 28th Surah Al-Qasas, ayat 85 that states :-

“Verily the One who has made Qur’an FERZ upon you, will lead you successfully to the place of return (Me’aad)”

In this ayat, Allah s.w.t. very clearly states that Qur’an has been made FERZ (compulsory) upon us ; yet it is very strange and tragic that Qur’an has not been mentioned as FERZ or Wajib in any fiqah books of any sect of Islam; like Namaz , Roza , Haj, zakaat are being enforced as FERZ. (To remove Qur’an from the FERZ list, a strange Shan-e-nazool has been associated with this ayat and on that basis the translations were done to minimize the whole significance of this ayat)

I have studied this ayat with the help of six Urdu and four English translations and they agree and disagree with each other in varying degrees. I would ask you to see this ayat yourself in the translations you have at home and share your study with me.

This is what I found in my above mentioned study:-

In this context, Let me share with you a personal experience regarding this ayat (28:85) ; that took place about fourteen (24) years ago.

“In a congregation I asked an open question that :-

“Allah Aleem ul Hakeem has made Qur’an FERZ according to this ayat of surah Al-Qasas. Why no book of fiqah of any sect, that I know of, writes about Qur’an being FERZ like NAMAZ, HAJ, ROZA or ZAKAAT? After giving me the look that I deserved, the organizer of the meeting asked me if this ayat was from Qur’an. I gave the surah and ayat number; and to their shock, the ayat was there. The SHAN_E_NAZOOL of this ayat, with reference to a big name quoted that: “This Ayat was revealed during the pilgrimage of the Holly Prophet s.a.a.s when he was very sad and Allah s.w.t gave him an assurance through this Ayat to console him; that the Qur’an has been made Ferz upon him so that this could take him back to Mecca.”

Everyone was very relieved by the comment that since the purpose of this ayat was only to cheer up the Holy Prophet for the moment, that is why Qur’an was not declared Ferz by Muftees of Islam.

I asked: Does it mean that, the Qur’an revealed during the thirteen years of Meccan period, was meant to get the Holy Prophet s.a.a.s out of Mecca, and The Qur’an of Madni period was meant to take him back to Mecca? And if this was purpose then why our Holy Prophet s.a.a.s did not stay in Mecca after its conquest?  They gracefully accepted the points with a great moral courage and asked me to keep visiting their Mosque.

It is disgraceful that we read Qur’an, without understanding and recite this book back to Allah s.w.t. who had revealed it to us for the only purpose that, we could understand and follow this Book.

From this one example, out of many, you might have noticed what we have done to our own Holy Book, Qur’an ul Hakeem.

Had we treated Qur’an respectfully, then no Moumin could kill a Moumin knowingly without being condemned to Hell (Quran:4:93) What to talk of battles and wars fought between Moumineen starting from 25 years after the death of the Holy Prophet s.a.a.s. starting with the battle of “Jamel” till the sponsored wars of today being fought amongst Muslims in the Middle East today. An endless flow of Human blood by the hands of Muslim dynasties after dynasties is going on and on. Who knows till when?

The clarity of recitation is important for understanding the proper meanings of any language but there is no way that any book can ever be understood by just reciting it with perfect phonetics in classical Music tunes without even trying to understand a word.

If we do not understand Qur’an, the fault is ours not of Qur’an. We just simply do not want to understand it …. BECAUSE NOBODY WANTS QUR’AN, THE FINAL SOLUTION FOR ALL AILMENTS OF THE HUMAN SOCIETY, EXCEPT A TRUE MOUMIN.

FINAL WARNING

According to Quran’s 25th Surah Furqan: 30th Ayat: our Rehmat un lil Aalemeen Rasool s.a.a.s; who is supposed to be Shafeh ul Ummat, will complain before Allah Rehman ur Raheem on the Day of Judgment, in very sad words:

“And Rasool will say, “O My Rubb ! My own people held this Qur’an as if they had no relationship left with it.” (25:30)

My Dear Moumineen and Mouminaat!

Before that day of our last breath comes, let us get connected with Qur’an. The Master Of The Day Of Judgment tells us to get guidance and light from it, in order to walk on Sirat-e-Mustaqeem, otherwise we will not be able to show our faces to Allah Ghafoor-ur-Raheem, our Holy Prophet s.a.a.s. and all True Moumineen.

Let us all help each other to achieve our Paradise under the shadow of Qur’an ul Hakeem. Allah Rehman ul Raheem has promised to help anyone who makes a sincere effort. (Quran:53:39)
