YFK & Islamabad HCBA Hold A Seminar On The Activism & Assassination Of Jalil Andrabi

ISLAMABAD—YFK–International Kashmir Lobby Group (Youth Forum For Kashmir) holds a Seminar on the “Role Of A Lawyer In Challenging Human Rights Violations In Indian-Occupied Jammu & Kashmir”, in collaboration with the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) in relevance with the Renowned Lawyer of occupied Kashmir, Jalil Andrabi’s Martyrdom Anniversary at Islamabad High Court, Federal Capital Islamabad.

Honourable Chief Guest, Mr. Justice Ch. Muhammad Ibrahim Zia-Chief Justice of Azad Jammu & Kashmir said that Pakistan is ready for free and fair plebiscite because it has full trust on Kashmiris that they are with Pakistan and they can sacrifice everything for Pakistan. Indian-occupied Kashmir is the only place on earth where the worst human rights abuses are taking place but no one can turn Kashmiris from their just demand of freedom. He said that we invite India to make peace and give freedom to Kashmir, we will not accept anything which will not be in favour of Kashmir and Pakistan. He further said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is incomplete without Kashmir, Gwadar Port cannot be operational without it.

Keynote speakers included the Honorable Chief Guest, Mr. Justice Ch. Muhammad Ibrahim Zia-Chief Justice of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Mr. Javed Akbar Shah-President Islamabad Bar Association, Ms. Huma Jamil-Advocate High Court, Mr. Ahmed Quraishi-Executive Director YFK–International Kashmir Lobby Group (Youth Forum For Kashmir), Ms. Shaista Safi-YFK Manager Programs and others, while Mr. Raja Faisal Younas-Secretary Islamabad Bar Association moderated the event.

Jalil Andrabi was a 36-year-old civil rights lawyer, pro-independence political activist and the Chairman of the Kashmir Commission of Jurists (a human rights organization in Indian-occupied Jammu & Kashmir). He fought over many years to improve prison conditions in Jammu & Kashmir and documented cases of arbitrary arrests and detention, custodial killings and “disappearances”.

On 8th March 1996, Jalil Andrabi was taken from his car by personnel of the 35 Rashtriya Rifles unit of Indian army, headed by a Sikh Major Avtar Singh. On 27thMarch, the decomposed body of Jalil Andrabi was found in the Jhelum River, his hands were tied up and his face was mutilated.

Event was attended by young lawyers, members of Bar Council Associations, and human rights defenders, etc.
